The contract is worth $436,724 to American, which beat out solicitations from more than a dozen competitors.

The Regents also awarded a separate contract to Northwest Airlines in the amount of $148,504 to fly the Pride of Oklahoma marching band to Seattle next fall when the Sooners play Washington.

The Regents also approved an estimated $1.5 million to go toward upgrades to OU's video production equipment at athletic venues.

What a surprise, the President of OU who sits on the Board of Directors for AMR Corporation wins the bid for the contract! Please don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of President Boren, but I wonder why this very relevant point of information wasn't disclosed in the article. What would have really been news is if the Regents elected a competing airline over AMR. Now that would have been news.

With gas prices like they are, this is probably a good deal. I'm glad the Pride will be in Washington for that game -- it makes a huge difference to have the full group present at away games (as any OU fans who have attended away games will attest).
