Self, Perkins have strong bond
Working relationship with AD could keep coach at Kansas
SAN ANTONIO — Innuendo surrounding Bill Self potentially becoming Oklahoma State's next basketball coach has focused primarily on a huge financial windfall that could await the OSU graduate.

But one aspect that could keep Self at Kansas is his strong working relationship with KU athletic director Lew Perkins.
"The thing Lew and I have done, and we've done it ever since we've been together, is we've had a very, very open line of communication,” Self said Friday afternoon during his Final Four news conference. "We talk about anything and everything. We've talked about what do we need to be successful? How can we help you? How do we help the players? What do we need to feed them to academic support, travel, everything. He's very good at giving us the resources we need.”
Self is believed to be OSU's top choice to replace former coach Sean Sutton, who was fired Tuesday.
Upon hearing of Sutton's dismissal, Self immediately visited with Perkins.
"(We did) not talk about terms of contract or anything like that. It was just, ‘Lew, how do we handle this?' ”Self said. "We talked about it. He asked me, ‘Do you want to go anywhere?' I said, ‘Heck, no. I don't want to go anywhere.' That's kind of how that conversation transpired.
