STILLWATEROklahoma State's two 2008 basketball signees said Friday that they're both still committed to the Cowboys, despite Sean Sutton's departure as coach.

One of Oklahoma's best in-state prospects said the Cowboys might return to the mix of schools to consider.

Pawnee's Keiton Page, The Oklahoman's Player of the Year, said he was disappointed about Sutton's resignation but remains 100 percent committed. Junior college player Dee Proby said he's committed but is waiting to see who OSU hires as its next men's coach.

Bishop McGuiness's Daniel Orton will now watch with interest to see who OSU hires. Orton, the younger brother of former Cowboys standout Terrance Crawford, is a Rivals.com five-star prospect in the 2009. He is being recruited by most of the country's top programs. The 6-foot-10 center is uncommitted, but OSU has not been high on his list.

"They weren't showing much interest in me,” Orton said. "I thought they would, especially being a in-state kid and being highly ranked. I thought they'd show a lot more interest in me than they did. I really didn't seem like they cared about me at all.”

That could change depending on the hire announced by OSU athletic director Mike Holder, who is in San Antonio for the Final Four this weekend.

"If the new coach puts the effort into recruiting me, I'll think about it,” Orton said. "Right now, I don't know where OSU stands on my list. They have a chance, they just have to show interest.”

Page and Proby both said assistant coach James Dickey called them earlier this week, and Holder called Page on Tuesday evening.

"We just talked a little bit about it, and (Holder) told me he hadn't made any contact with any coaches yet,” Page said. "He said he would keep me informed as soon as anything happened.”

Page, who grew up an OSU fan, said he was a little bit surprised on Tuesday.

"I didn't think it would happen this year,” he said of Sutton leaving. "There were other reasons for me choosing OSU other than coach Sutton — Gallagher-Iba was a big reason, to be able to play in that atmosphere. It's close to home. But coach Sutton was a big part of it.”

Proby, a 6-foot-9 forward, said he is on schedule to graduate from Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas.

"I'll still come if everything works out good,” he said. "I'm just waiting now.”

It says volumes about the program, the facilities, the educational opportunities, the fans, and the atmosphere of Oklahoma State that these prospects (and others that will follow) still want to attend OSU. Great school, great people, great education. Go Pokes!

I thought osu was trying to shed the image of being a redneck hillbilly university? I mean that with no offence! but nevertheless if osu wants to be taken seriously, please dont use puns that have anything to do with farm animals, and the meaning of a carrot that is being dangled in front of that farm animal which in turn causes the farm animal to move forward, trying and trying to catch the carrot, hey that reminds me! the most powerful offence in the nation kind of goes through the same thing year end and year out, chasing something but will never "get it done"

As soon as the National Championship tournament is over Monday night, Oklahoma State needs to lay the dollars on the table and get Bill Self hired. If Self wins the National Championship at KU, what is left for him to accomplish there? Put the shiney carrot in front of the horse and get it done.

All OSU needs to do right now is get a good coach that can get us back to national stardom, because right now i am embarrassed, also they need to get some talent so we can get back to the Final four.

surprised???? Well, you're talking OSU here, not brainiacs....have a nice day all you dear downtrodden, abused Aggie fans. Things will get better....you're a team on the rise, right?

Orton's not a slam-dunk prospect. He's just TALL...very tall. I've yet to see him do much, really. I did see him throw some 'tude at his coach during the state finals. Maybe he's a prima dona?? Hopefully not, though. TC was great for OSU, and here's hoping Daniel is a stud and OSU gives him a look. I'm all for local boys doing good.

Add the Verdigris kid, Rotnei Clark, I believe, to the mix. Come on....Arkansas over any one of OSU, OU or ORU? There is definitely something amiss.

I think OSU figured they didn't have a chance at getting him since Billy Donovan and other big time coaches was at how many of his games this year? I hate seeing all of Oklahomas best players getting lured away football and basketball. Thanks Blake for staying closse...Xsavier Henry...awesome player but I wonder how hard did OU or OSU try at recruting him or does he just hate Oklahoma schools that much? I guess you can't hate them for moving away all that matters is they stay out of trouble and do what's asked of them Oklahoman will still keep up with them, but would still love to see them playing at OU or OSU

Things like the lack of apparent effort toward in state recruits, that obviously have a reason to play at OSU, might shed insight to more reasons the Holder had to remove Sutton.

My thoughts exactly, John. That is almost enough right there to justify getting rid of Sean. This guy is a beast, he has OSU ties, and he grew up right down the road. Why in the world would we not even attempt to go after him. I knew that OSU wasn't high on his list, but I just thought it was because he wasn't interested, not because we weren't interested. That is unbelievable.

As an OSU fan it is hard to imagine that we would not have showered Daniel Orton with interest. A five star prospect, a center, a legacy who was a ball boy @ OSU with my son when they were 9 and 10. Makes me wonder what we were thinking on that one.
