The breakdown: The next OSU coach

Published: April 5, 2008

Everybody's got their wish list for the next Oklahoma State men's basketball coach. Some of the reasons here are slightly screwy. So was the decision to show Sean Sutton the door.

5. Mark Few, Gonzaga: Wound a little too tight, but maybe if he wasn't always screaming, "We're not a mid-major,” he might chill a bit.

4. Bill Self, Kansas: Oh, I know it's pie-in-the-sky thinking, but wouldn't it be fun to have a coach in the state making more than Bob Stoops?

3. Tim Floyd, Southern Cal: He can recruit. Getting O.J. Mayo to L.A.? Easy for a guy who lured, well, anyone to Ames, Iowa.

2. Anthony Grant, Virginia Commonwealth: New VCU slogan: Providing great basketball coaches to the state of Oklahoma since 2006.

1. Keno Davis, Drake: Paired with Kurt Budke, OSU would have the best-coiffed coaches around.

The only way letting Sutton go is screwey is if OSU doesn't use all their resources to find the best man for the job. Not hire some good ol' boy because he did someone a favor. T-Bone will have to apply different logic that what is used in the petroleum business. He can do it, he if forcing too much right now. The cream will rise to the top.

Where did the Capel comment come from? How does anyone get anything about him from this article?

When did Jeff Caple become a great coach? I must have missed that memo.

Would this be the same Tim Floyd, coach of the team with the #1 ranked recruiting class including #1 ranked O.J. Mayo, that got his hat handed to him by K-state in the first round of the dance? Good, God, I hope not. Could be worse, I guess, but it could also be better. Similar to being on the cover of S.I., it must be a curse having the #1 ranked class.
