Assuming the team isn't scheduled to do any testing at other tracks, this is how a typical week goes for Caney native Chad Tigert, a pit crew member on the No. 31 Sprint Cup car of Jeff Burton.
Monday
An early start — about 7 or 8 a.m. — at the Richard Childress Racing garage in Welcome, N.C., as the crew begins to get cars set up for the next week's race.
Tuesday
The only day off during the week for the crew while at home.
Wednesday
Finish initial set-up on the cars and load them in the hauler to send them to the track.
Thursday
Arrive at the track and unload the cars in the garage to prepare for qualifying, which is a different car set-up than will be used for the actual race.
Friday
Usually qualifying day, along with a practice session to refine the details of the car set-up.
Saturday
A last round of practice to get the car fully prepared for the race.
Sunday
Race day. Tigert spends the day keeping track of fuel usage and mileage per gallon, along with handing fuel cans over the pit wall on stops. The crew is on a plane within an hour of the end of the race to head back to North Carolina and start over again.
