Self insists OSU job not a distraction

SAN ANTONIO — It's been an emotional week for Kansas coach Bill Self.

His team advanced to the Final Four with a gut-wrenching 59-57 survival against No. 10-seeded Davidson at the Midwest Regional final in Detroit.

In the second half of Saturday night's national semifinal against top-seeded North Carolina, a team coached by former KU coach Roy Williams, the Jayhawks' 28-point first-half lead was cut to four points before Self's squad pulled away for an 84-66 victory.

KU now faces Memphis today at 8:21 p.m. in the national title game.

However, Self insists none of his emotions have been spent on his candidacy as Oklahoma State's next coach.

"I haven't been concerned about it becoming a distraction," Self said during his Sunday news conference at the Alamodome. "It doesn't register with our players. To be real candid, it hasn't registered with me.

"We've had a lot of people that's put in a lot of time and effort to get to this point. Our players have worked their tails off. There's no way I'm going to let anything like that distract me right now.

"No way."

Patrick, yes you are correct. But in most any employment situation, it rarely happens. Key words, '...Kansas can't match.' Jayhawks are working hard to be more than a "one sport university". Anything close to the figures reported will not be received with enthusiasm by the Kansas football program. Perkins has significant problems.

Remind me again how many national championships OU has in men's basketball? It would seem that conference titles (which were attained only through Samsung's cheating) would be the ceiling there as well. On second thought, if OU would just spring for the "unlimited minutes" plan, then Jeff "Hellhole" Capel just might be able to put 'em over the top.

He would be a rich man with a scrub team. Bad situation, you are not going to win a national championship in men's basketball at OSU. Conference titles are the ceiling. Self has higher aspirations. A top ten job what a joke. Who is building up all this propaganda? Look at the cattle just following along.

r-Those figures were reported on Channel 9 here in OKC last night and apparently originated from Dave Sittler (formerly of the DOK) and now with the Tulsa World. That's all well and good, IF Self is just in it for the money and/or to come back home to OSU. He could still choose to take a huge raise and stay at KU. Don't get me wrong, I'm an OSU grad and am all for us getting the best coach we can.

Charlie Rich of Fanhouse is reporting that the rumored OSU numbers for Self are a $6M signing bonus and $4M per year salary. Also reports that Kansas can't match. If true, Oklahoma State just brought a Cowboy back to Stillwater to be their new basketball coach.

(Sorry about the typos in original)He may not have allowed OSU to be a distraction during the tournament but I bet he has had sweet dreams over the last week with the idea of millions of extra Boone-dollars dancing in his head.
