Putnam City guard Xavier Henry said Monday that he would have to reconsider his favorite schools if Kansas coach Bill Self left Lawrence for Oklahoma State.

"If he was to leave, I won't say I wouldn't consider Kansas anymore, but I'd have to re-evaluate where I am with them,” Henry said.

And while the 6-foot-6 junior said it might be unlikely the Cowboys completely jump into the mix, he would probably give OSU another look with Self at the helm.

"I would give them half the year and watch to see what happens at OSU,” Henry said. "(Just) to see what's going on before I make my decision.”

Asked if that's the only way OSU would have a shot, he responded: "Yeah, or if (Memphis) coach (John) Calipari went there.”

Henry said his thought process wouldn't change quite as much if Calipari left Memphis.

"I'm close with everyone at Memphis, even assistant coaches,” he said. "So, Memphis would still stay at the top.”

Who is this Page kid going to OSU? Sure he lit it up in Class A ball, but how does he stack up against quality players like the ones from Tulsa Washington, Guthrie, Putnam City or Midwest City? I bet he wouldn't score 40 pts on any of those teams!! OVERRATED

Self will stay at KU. Did Dean Smith come back to Kansas (his alma mater) from North Carolina when they called him? NO! And you're not even talking about a step down to a lesser program. Roy Williams turned down UNC to stay at KU the first time they came knocking. He only left to "go home" after 15 years of coming up empty at Kansas. And if you think Bill is done at KU after winning his first championship, you're nuts! Do you think after a taste of winning it he wants to go to OSU and toil for a great number of years to even have a shot at just making it to the national championship game, not to mention winning another title which might take even longer? NO! He would not be able to recruit the same level of players at OSU that would come to Kansas. He's a great coach, but not a miracle-worker.

Everyone keeps talking about Boone coughing up all this money to hire a coach. Has Boone actually ever said he would come up with this money? This reminds me of a bunch of poor relatives who cling onto a rich family member. Since Holder hasn't even thought about a package or how much a coach will cost maybe it is because there is a lot of BooneBucks available. It would be nice if OSU didn't have to depend on a donor to run it's athletic program. Boone has helped to set up the facilities so that the programs can achieve a higher level. Now it is up to fans to pay the price and buy tickets(Holder did his part in jacking up prices). My guess is that Holder will next target basketball prices once he gets a new coach.

Aaron, I am going to laugh my butt off when Self take Boone's millions and comes to OSU. OU will soon be the fourth best team in the state TU and ORU are both on the way up. OSU will have Self, and OU will have a coach that actually considered taking the South Carolina job rather than be in Snorman where they could care less about basketball! Its great to be a Cowboy! Thanks T-Boone!

Its funny how the OU fans calls OSU loosers, and speak bad about OSU basketball. Then call Bill Self "smart". Don't forget Bill Self is a product of OSU. As is Eddie Sutton, Sean Sutton, Henry Iba. I believe that Self would come to OSU because he don't owe KU anything. He won the crown, just as he was hired to do. Now its time for Bill to do something for himself and his family. With that said, COME HOME BILL!

I meant "hire", not "higher"

Wow, classy OU fan Arron has really made a name for himself. He is pissed OSU will land a bigger higher then Capel. What OU fan wouldn't be? Classy Arron comment in 3...2...1

Eric - You don't have to YELL!! I don't know if KU has the financial backing to pay waht you call an outlandish offer. You underestimate Boone and Holder.

BILL IS VERY SMART,,,,,GONNA GET AN OUTLANDISH OFFER FROM OSU TO MAKE KANSAS RENEGOTIATE OR EXTEND HIS CONTRACT,,,,,,,,KANSAS WOULD MATCH ANYTHING BOONE AND HOLDER PUT TOGETHER,,,,,,,,,,,THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE LAKERS WHEN THEY WERE COURTING COACH K FROM DUKE,,,PLUS THE TRACK RECORD OF TREATMENT OF COACHERS AT OSU,,,IS NOT VERY GOOD

Self will probably stay at KU. If it were football you would not generally expect to have a Bob Stoops dropping down a level or two from OU to Iowa, his alma mater. OSU and OU have both had good years in basketball in the last ten years, but KU is nearly always at that level since Kansas rarely has anything but basketball to brag about. Basketball is a second class citizen to football in Oklahoma, where even women's basketball is sometimes a bigger draw.

As an aside, why do schools with blue as the the primary school color historically dominate in multiple NCAA basketball championships( UCLA, UNC, UK, Duke, KU)? Why do teams with derivatives of red dominate in football multiple NCAA championships(Ohio State, OU, USC, Alabama, Nebraska, FSU)?

Maybe one could exist 60 miles north opf Putnam City. Not all student athletes have to choose that particular school. Apparently, he will go wherever Self goes. So whoknows?

It is a shame that there is no NCAA division one school with a former NCAA championship game starting guard coaching it located near Oklahoma City that Xavier Henry would attend. If there was such a place Henry could show loyalty to the state and people who financed his education for 12 years in the public school system in Oklahoma. Further, he help his home state and remain near his friends and family in the major state television market. One could only dream that such a university existed less than 30 miles south of Putnam City High School.
edwin, prague - Apr 8, 2008 at 12:10 pm
I am so glad that everyone thinks OSU is such a loser school. ***SARCASM*** What is this based on? They have had a rough patch the last 3 years. They went to 2 Final Fours in 1995 and in 2004. Give me a break!

Right Jess. You would be eating up every word of it and begging for more if Self or any other big-name coach were thinking about coming to OU. Besides, if you don't like what's being written about it, you always have the option of not reading it.
Patrick, Edmond - Apr 8, 2008 at 10:25 am
Wow Carl very constructive comment. I feel like I just read something my 4 year old neice wrote. Really people lets keep it civilized. If anyone thinks Self wouldnt go to OSU they are insane. Its a lot of money and its HOME for him. He played there, his family is there, his wife cheered there, her family is there. To say he would never go is just ignorance. Whether OSU gets Self or not they will still get a good coach.

Oh and it seems some of us have insider informaiton (for example Jess states: "Hes not going to leave KU! Stop generateing story after story about it". If I were a betting man I would not have you placing my bets. Most likely hes not going to leave, but its silly to think he would never think of it.
jarrod - Apr 8, 2008 at 10:17 am
It amazes me how most people who write on these boards don't care how big of a jerk they are. It's rediculous....adults acting like 3 year olds.
curtis, cushing - Apr 8, 2008 at 10:07 am
I wish this newspaper would get off this. He's not going to leave KU! Stop generating story after story about it... get over it and move on to something else to write about.

Why do you tools (arron, carl) even care to comment about OSU basketball? Slow day at the drive-thru?
Chris, Jones - Apr 8, 2008 at 10:06 am
keep telling yourself that; will be a bad day for OU basketball when it happens.

If he is bright enough to get this far, he will not make a bonehead decision to go to OSU. Is he a glutton for punishment?
Arron, Holdenville - Apr 8, 2008 at 9:27 am
What a coincidence, that's the very same reason John Calipari (who BTW Self just beat for the National Championship) elected to stay at Memphis rather than going to ou two years ago...
Patrick, Edmond - Apr 8, 2008 at 8:16 am
Self is a smart man. He is not going to leave Kansas and go to Osulosers. He likes to win too much.
