STILLWATER — Which young receivers will emerge at Oklahoma State to complement sophomore Dez Bryant?

Based on two full-contact scrimmages, Damian Davis has been the Cowboys' second most productive receiver this spring.

"Double-D has had a good spring,” said coach Mike Gundy. "He's further ahead than those other guys because he played some last year. He has more experience. He's coming along really well.”

Davis hauled in five catches for 48 yards in OSU's first major scrimmage two weeks ago. In last week's scrimmage, Davis added five receptions for 56 yards.

"The thing I was worried about is as a tall guy, (defenders) can get under your pads sometimes and knock you back on blocking,” said receivers coach Trooper Taylor. "But he's done really well. He's competing really hard. Double-D is going to show up and make plays.”

OSU signed four highly regarded receivers in the 2007 class. Bryant and Davis were the only two to play. Josh Cooper and Hubert Anyiam redshirted. Will Cole was moved from defensive back to receiver but had much to learn switching positions during the season.

Other receivers vying for playing time include: junior Jeremy Broadway, DeMarcus Conner, Bo Bowling and Artie Woods, who will be cleared for all football activities this summer following back surgery.

Davis played in nine games. He recorded only two catches for 47 yards but coaches complimented his blocking skills.

"He's developed a lot,” said quarterback Zac Robinson. "He came in pretty light but has gained close to 15 to 20 pounds. He started playing towards the end of the season. Now he knows everything we're doing offensively.”

Davis, 6-foot-5, 185 pounds, is penciled in to fill Adarius Bowman's vacancy.

Named a first-team Class 2A All-State receiver his senior year at Mart, Texas, Davis compiled 56 catches for 1,082 yards and 15 touchdowns.

What has stood out during the two scrimmages is Davis' athletic skills. He's made leaping catches over defenders and acrobatic receptions, often diving for passes.

"For a big guy I've never seen anybody that's 6-5 that is so shifty and moves around that well,” Robinson said. "He and Dez have great hands. There are six or seven guys who will help us out tremendously. (Davis) has shown he will make some big plays for us this season.”

Aaron: What in the world are you talking about? Your post is the most incoherent gibberish I've ever seen! Pack hunting? Resting better at night? What does any of that even mean?

Davis--Who? I see sensitivity to Roy's comment. As though he has shamed them. Maybe he is so close to reality in his judgment they are jealous, and envy his insight. Sounds about right along with their pack-hunting behavior. From your display of billyboy logic if he does get a check I'm still sure he rests better at night than the rest of you. He is efficient. Boomer Sooner.

roy, I see you posted this morning at 7:33AM. I guess that's one of the fringe benefits of being unemployed. You can post while the rest of us are on our way to work.

Sounds like we will continue to have playmakers at receiver. I'm ready for Saturday's scrimmage.

I have said before, ignore the idiot and he will go away. He starts early so all the other posts can follow up and he can laugh about it.

Kurt, that is the point to be disrespectful to Roy because he post ignorant that does not contribute or benefit anyone reading this story. I completely understand people voicing their opinions on here. But to continue to post ignorant information such as "5-7" shows his lack of class which opens him up to personal insults.

Sure, danny and Roy and JJ and all those people's posts are always really stupid, but everyone's comebacks are even worse, and not even close to being witty, let alone funny. Also, it's disrespectful to make fun of someone based on their employment status. Be human beings guys. It's just college athletics.

Artie Woods! Thanks for that info Aaron. I hope he does get back on the field and ESPN does one of those mushy stories on him. It's great that he's come this far.

5-7 is his dinner shift at taco bell today.

Aaron, I did make a mistake. I implied that roy was on unemployment when in reality he has never had a job long enough to receive unemployment. Roy, your welfare check is in the mail.

"somewhere in the 5 year old to 7 year old range" Now that's funny! Hey Pokes, who was the kid who hurt his back last season lifting weights and how is he doing? I haven't heard too much about him other than he was walking fine recently. It would be awesome to see him back on the field.
Scott, Indian Territory - Apr 9, 2008 at 9:07 am
i like roy's mullet.
Kenny, elko - Apr 9, 2008 at 9:03 am
I think you misunderstood Timmy...roy wasn't commenting on our football team's potential record next season he was referring to his literacy level, somewhere in the 5 year old to 7 year old range...
Aaron, Yukon - Apr 9, 2008 at 8:42 am
WOW, the Gooner Sooners are starting early this morning. Get back to your trailer park, I heard your unemployment check is in the mail.
