NORMAN — Former Oklahoma wide receiver Malcolm Kelly didn't have the pro day performance Wednesday that he wanted.

And he's putting some of the blame on OU.

Kelly, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds, said he wasn't told by the OU strength staff until this morning that the location of the pro day had been moved from Astroturf in the Mosier Center to field turf inside the Everest Indoor Training Center.

OU strength and conditioning coach Jerry Schmidt said the location had been changed Wednesday morning at the request of the NFL scouts, who felt the field turf at the Everest Center would be closer to the surface run on at the NFL Scouting Combine.

"I had everything set up for where I wanted to do it at," Kelly said. "I get up here this morning and it's a whole different deal. This is my life. It's got to do with me and my family. This is what I do, play football, and I'm supposed to run as fast as I can. I was slipping all over the place during my drill work. I can't say I'm pleased with anything today."

Kelly said he had been preparing for the last month to test on Astroturf and was running the 40 in under 4.5 seconds on that surface.

"People want to say surface is surface, but it's a lot more to it than that," Kelly said. "You have to think about how much ground time you have running on this mushy surface here and how much ground time you have on Astroturf.

"Just a little bit of time could mean a whole lot of draft money."

Kelly, who measured in at 6-foot-4 and 227 pounds, reached 32 inches in the vertical jump and 9 feet, 9 inches in the long jump. He posted times of 4.24 in the short shuttle and 7.00 in the three-cone drill.

Kelly looked sharp running routes and catching the ball during receiver drills.

He is flying to Cincinnati to meet with Bengals personnel later today.

Bengals offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski was among the more than 30 coaches and scouts who attended OU's second pro day, which included former Sooner defensive back Reggie Smith, tight end Joe Jon Finley and cornerback Marcus Walker.

Phillip...You are forgiven. But I have to say the Bengals don't need anymore problems either. Since I don't like the Steelers...maybe he could go there? LOL But perhaps Kelly will mature. I see someone talked him into apologizing. Good start.

Phillip, No soapbox here just stating what I believe! If that is standing on a soapbox then so be it! Jesus came to give man forgiveness not hate and unforgiveness as is being passed out on this forum. I stand for what I believe in with all that is within me. Jesus paid the price for all our sins including unforgiveness. When we read about this stuff we need to pray for all that show unforgiveness and I do each and everyday. I am not saying perfect because I am not. The bible says that "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." All I am saying is there is no one perfect in this world no not one. Our Roman ancestors crucified the perfect one over 2000 years ago. Read the story of Jesus in the new testament of the bible. There are 4 books that are dedicated to informing us about the life of Jesus Christ here on earth and all that he did and what he said about life, health, death and eternal life. They are called the 4 Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. When you have read them then you might understand the points I have tried to make. If you do not that is your choice. I cannot make you believe. I have tried unbelief, it doesn't work.

Jerry...Not certain what you've read into these comments, but I'm certainly hoping that you decend from our soapbox (or is that lecturn) asap...I've not selected one spike nor have any of us been shopping for the correct size of crucix for Malcolm. You defend him by telling us he's young & will make errors...yes, he must be 19 or 20 now anyway, and just thinking how many young people at that age are making huge contributions in our military and at home, many of which are life changing. We all make errors, no question. His consequences minor in comparison. Let's all move on...

Here's food for thought. Could it be that Malcolm's latest behavioral misstep is a reflection on the attitudes of alot of the fans who follow Oklahoma football? We have here a talented player here who did some good things at Oklahoma while he played here yet alot of fans are ready to crucify him for a behavioral misstep. Alot of you need to grow up. Malcolm does too. He is not the first athlete to blame coaches for something he himself should have prepared himself for. Everyone needs to remember these are still young people and they will not always do or act as we think they should act. As far as consequences for his actions, Malcolm has already started to reap consequences for his action. We do reap what we sew. I am a loyal sooner fan and will be until I am gone from this earth. I have followed the Sooners for 42 years. I do not live in Oklahoma anymore but I am still a loyal Sooner fan. Last season is representative of reality in life. The unexpected happens and we have to be prepared for those moments. If we are not then losing a game or something a lot worse can happen. Malcolm will learn from his mistake. If he does not then his career in pro football will be very short.

wow, what an attitude. Always somebody elses fault.

Rebecca, please forgive me! I certainly would not wish this guy on the Chiefs. But the Bengals already have one problem child...What's not to like about making bookends? lol. Time for the coaches to take the kidgloves off & the "bonus boys" to begin acting as adults. Let's allow some of the "lesser known" guys take center stage. They've shown the heart it takes to be great. In my book, I'll take that heart over anything Kelly has shown..

Here's a reach: a friend who is a friend of an NFL scout says that MK's post-workout whining has already raised hackles in his organization and that the letter MK's agent sent out last week denying MK was hurt is now seen as part of a pattern. Not even drafted and MK is labeled as a malcontent. What a shame, but it appears to be justified.

If Malcolm is not embarrassed by his outburst then something is wrong with him. Even if his rant is based on fact, which I doubt, he should have acted in a more gentlemanly fashion. If the University staff was so horrid to him why didn't he move on years ago?
edwin, prague - Apr 10, 2008 at 9:46 pm
Malcolm sure looked alot better when Paul Thompson - no disrespect intended - was trying to get it into the same zip code as Kelly. I think his real beef started when he realized that Bradford had a capable arm & he could share the wealth, not just have every jump ball thrown his way. WHAT a CRY BABY! My family attended a few away games, but not all. During everyone of those games announcer always said well you can tell that play isnt for Kelly, he just jogged through the route or he is just standing there watching the action.
Jeanie, Wichita Falls - Apr 10, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Suck it up, Malcolm. Why don't you be a man (oops you're not 40)...why don't you be a role-model and teach kids accountability? What a concept.

Phillip! How could you compare this kid to the great "Ocho Cinco". My heart is broken, I'm tearing my hair. Your comment was so very harsh! Obviously Kelly needs maturity, but then maybe Thomas is right it is all about the money. What happened to the love of the game? I guess I don't care as long as Kelly doesn't end up with the Chiefs...they have enough problems as it is.
Rebecca, Owasso - Apr 10, 2008 at 3:48 pm
C'mon, Malcom! You're better than that. Only someone like Tonya Harding would make such excuses.
Say it, isn't so - Apr 10, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Well the pro scouts wanted the change. I defended MK all
because the coaches should have found a way to get him the ball. I wish him luck, my overall lasting impression though is he missed 2 fiesta bowls!!!!, I'm with Chris on that one.
James, Aberdeen - Apr 10, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Already starting to be a whiny @$$ pro athlete. It all comes done to money. I mean they took care of this kid for the time he was there and now he wants to piss and moan. You know what KID, grow up and go out and earn the money that will come your way if you show that you derve it. This has to raise red flags with the crap he is already pulling. I mean the NFL scouts wanted it changed so thats all he needed to do irregardless what he was practicing and training for. Get a hold of yourself Kelly.
Thomas, Fort Sill - Apr 10, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Shoulda stayed in school. Sorry.
CECIL, Encinitas - Apr 10, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Maybe he would have run better if he had his Binky in his mouth. At least it would have shut him up. What a whiner.... Your education dollars at work...

Hey folks, come on, give the guy a break. Diaper rash has got to be very painful.
Jerry, Conway - Apr 10, 2008 at 11:47 am
I ran a 4.7/40 on grass in HS. That was almost 20 years ago. There was no artificial turf or astroturf, etc. It was on a two inch high grassy football field. That tells you how slow Kelly is.
j3lly, Boon Dock - Apr 10, 2008 at 9:33 am
Maybe he can have 4 great games in the NFL in 3 years too!!! Seriously...we have got to start recruiting more AD's and NO more MK's. Good riddance. Even Jerry's starting to think this guy's a loser.
Dustin, Oklahoma City - Apr 10, 2008 at 9:16 am
If he can play it doesn't make any difference. I don't think he knows that though.
Arron, Holdenville - Apr 10, 2008 at 9:05 am
Kelly to the Bengals to play alongside #85? A match made in heaven, perhaps? lol

Kharma is a beeeaaatch Malcolm!!!!!!!!!!! Hey at least we won't have to worry about "pretenders" leaving early for the draft for awhile!!! I think this jackazz actually did us a favor by leaving and showing (along with the others that left early this year) aren't exactly setting the world on fire thus far!!!! Boomer Sooner!!!

Obviously another scholarship wasted on an illiterate ingrate. After he blows his knee out or some other career ender, we'll no doubt read about him later getting busted for drugs or involved in a drive-by.

OK, Malcolm is a member of the human race...That's established...Hope if he falls along the way in that particular race, he doesn't blame the shoes!
