Massey, 27, pleaded not guilty Friday to charges that claim he had sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old female student on Feb. 21, 2007, while he was an assistant football coach at Tahlequah High School.

Detective Lt. Dale Glory said Massey and the girl had sex three times while Massey was employed by Tahlequah Public Schools. The crime is punishable by imprisonment from one to 15 years.

According to a police affidavit, the girl told Glory she was enrolled in high school when she had sex with Massey, an assistant football coach at Tahlequah since 2004.

The section of law in which Massey is charged applies to victims between ages 16-20, high school students who engage in sexual intercourse with someone 18 years or older who is an employee of the same school system.

One of the top recruits in OSU history, Massey led the nation in kickoff returns in 2001, averaging 34.8 yards a return. Massey had two of the longest returns in school history that season, a 97-yard return against Texas and a 92-yard return against Texas Tech.

After a standout career as a quarterback at Spiro, Massey primarily was a defensive back and kick returner for the Cowboys. During his career he also played a few snaps at wide receiver and quarterback.

Massey was a three-year starter in the secondary at OSU, playing both cornerback and safety. A member of the senior class that defeated Oklahoma in 2001 and 2002, Massey recorded 209 career tackles and four interceptions.

His senior year at Spiro, Massey compiled 2,529 yards total offense and accounted for 29 touchdowns.
