Temperatures today and Wednesday won't be as warm as Monday. Still, temperatures both days should reach the 80s and 90s, according to the National Weather Service.
Lows tonight are expected to dip into the 50s and lower 60s, with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms.
A fire weather watch will be effective from Wednesday morning to Wednesday night and Thursday morning to Thursday night for Cimarron and Texas counties.
Dry air and warm temperatures will push relative humidity below 15 percent and strong southwesterly winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph, according to the weather service.
Forecasters said mostly cloudy conditions are expected Thursday through Saturday, with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms in eastern Oklahoma on Thursday and statewide Friday and Saturday.
Afternoon highs on Thursday are to be in the 80s to lower 90s with overnight lows falling into the 60s to lower 70s.
Temperatures near records
On Monday, Oklahoma City reached 96 degrees, one degree shy of the record for May 19. Tulsa hit 94 degrees, two degrees shy of the record.
The earliest Oklahoma City reached triple digits was 100 degrees on April 12, 1972.
Derek Arndt, associate state climatologist, said when days with hot temperatures become consistent, the number of tornadoes will decrease.
Arndt said that historically, the third week of June marks the start of a hot period in which there is a decrease in severe weather.
