EDMONDKatrina Uhls' dream is a place where kids can unplug from electronics and escape to a place of creativity.

"Having pride in achieving level four of a game is different than being proud of something you made,” Uhls said.

"We're constantly receiving stimulus from marketing experts and gaming experts. It's almost overwhelming at times. I think we need more balance.”

Uhls is trying to offer children that balance through her new business, Unpluggits Playstudio, which opened May 24 at 575 Enterprise Drive, Suite 110, in Edmond.

"We need to be free to make something silly and laugh about it and not be so worried about ... if it's going to be better than someone else's,” Uhls said.

Unpluggits is not a day care center or any kind of drop-off facility for kids, Uhls said.

Instead, it's a place where parents can take their kids to play and "be creative.”

They can paint a "#1 Dad” on a clay trophy for Father's Day, paint and decorate a custom lamp for their mother to place in the living room, or get out the glue and the glitter and make some custom art for the home refrigerator.

Kids also can climb around on an indoor playground and pirate ship.

Fun for parents
There's something for parents, too. Uhls said parents like to take advantage of the free wireless Internet while watching their kids at the playground.
