Defrocked ref Tim Donaghy alleges shenanigans with the 2002 NBA playoffs, and yes, it could be the wailings of a desperate man.

Sorry, David Stern. Donaghy's claims can't be summarily dismissed.

Donaghy says refs conspired to fix Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals; the Lakers won the game in question, then the series in seven games.

The Rogue Ref — the commissioner's term for Donaghy — certainly isn't a credible witness. But he's also not the first to claim something's rotten in the state of hoops.

Over that very game in question, American rabble-rouser Ralph Nader called for an investigation. In the fateful fourth quarter of a game won 106-102 by the Lakers, LA attempted 27 fourth-quarter foul shots.
