Mourners offer sympathy, gifts for slain girls

WELEETKA — Traffic was heavy Saturday on a usually seldom-traveled rural county road as mourners stopped to place flowers and other mementos on a makeshift memorial to two young girls.

Taylor Dawn Paschal-Placker, 13, and Skyla Whitaker, 11, were shot to death June 8 along a dirt road near Weleetka. The best friends had separate funeral services Friday.

A 7-foot long rock memorial now holds about 40 bouquets of flowers, green balloons, a picture of Jesus, teddy bears, candles, dolls, stuffed animals and rosary beads, along with a heart-shaped floral wreath with photographs of Taylor and Skyla.

"Bless their little hearts,” said Anna Roberts of Henryetta, who stopped with her grandson Kaleb, 12. "It is just so sad — so heartbreaking.”

Roberts said she thinks there was more than one killer and they are still in the area. She put her arm around Kaleb.

"You know, little boys are in danger, also,” she said.
