Be shady. Your guests will need plenty of shade while they lounge. Use canopies if you don't have enough shade trees in the pool area.

Drink up. For crowd-pleasing adult beverages, go online to www.thebar.com to get new recipes for old favorites.

Make it cozy. Use indoor/outdoor area rugs to make your party space cozy. The rugs will prevent guests' feet from being burned when the patio heats up.

Add toys. Shop for inexpensive beach balls, float toys and water guns for young swimmers. If the toys pop or break, it's no big loss.

Make room for blooms. Put vases filled with flowers along the length of picnic tables. Use small vases so guests can see one another across the table.
