Drop in weight helped Mocco gain Olympic berth

STILLWATER — Former Oklahoma State wrestler Steve Mocco is still the same person who won two national championships with the Cowboys and wrestled for another. Only thing is, there's less of him now.

•Born: North Bergen, New Jersey
•College: Two-time heavyweight national champion (2003, 2005) at Oklahoma State and Iowa.
•Road to the Rings: Mocco defeated longtime rival Tommy Rowlands from Ohio State 2-1 in their best-of-three series at the Olympic Trials in June.
•Rest of the field: Fardin Masumi (Iran) and Bilial Mahov (Russia) are the highest ranked wrestlers in the field. Masumi won gold at a pre-Olympic event last summer.
•Up next: Mocco will take the mat Aug. 21.
