Enthusiasm helped WWLS win out
NBA in OKC: Radio rights
In analyzing bids for radio rights to Oklahoma City's NBA franchise, sports media consultant Ed Desser said WWLS was most impressive for several reasons, including the station management's passion for the NBA team.

"The level of enthusiasm and creativity that they brought to the process and the willingness to think outside of the box was quite evident,” Desser said.
Of course, a lucrative offer also helped WWLS-FM 98.1 and AM 640 land the multiyear contract as the team's flagship stations.
Oklahoma City's NBA team brought in Desser, who has worked in sports media for 32 years, to handle the broadcast rights.
Desser declined to reveal how many bids the team received or the financial arrangements. It was likely that several companies made bids, including Clear Channel Communications, which held rights for the Hornets' broadcasts.
It should be a perfect marriage. As a 24-hour sports station, the Sports Animal has an abundance of air time to cover and promote the team, which is off to a fast start in Oklahoma City. Coverage will include pregame and postgame shows, coaches shows and weekly NBA shows, Citadel Broadcasting operations manager Chris Baker said.
