How does this mega-coverage compare to past Olympics?
The 12 Olympics from 1960 in Rome, the first commercially televised Summer Games, through the 2004 Athens Games totaled 2,565 hours of TV coverage.
NBC will air many of the big events live in prime time. Although these events actually will take place in the morning, there is a 12-hour time difference between Beijing and the East Coast.
For the first time, all TV coverage will be produced in HD.
Former Oklahoma State star Michele Smith, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in softball, will be the commentator for softball.
