Johnson, Colts O-line struggle against Vikes
Charlie Johnson wasn't supposed to have to deal with Minnesota's Jared Allen. But after the Colts' starting left tackle, Tony Ugoh, went down with an injury, Johnson moved back to left tackle, the position he played for most of last season.

Johnson, a former Oklahoma State standout, started the game at right guard for the Colts, but ended up protecting — trying, anyway — Peyton Manning's blind side against the ultra-quick Allen.

Allen finished with a sack and two quarterback hurries, but the Colts went on to win 18-15.

•Cassel finds favorite: Looks like new New England quarterback Matt Cassel has found his go-to receiver. Cassel threw Wes Welker's way 11 times in the Patriots' 19-10 win over the Jets. No other New England receiver had more than four balls thrown his way.

Welker, who played at Heritage Hall, finished with seven catches for 72 yards.

•Lofton has strong showing: Falcons rookie linebacker Curtis Lofton had eight tackles in Atlanta's 24-9 loss to Tampa Bay. Lofton won the starting position during training camp and is playing between perennial Pro-Bowler Keith Brooking and up-and-comer Michael Boley.

Lofton's been soaking up as much information from Brooking and Boley as possible.

"The older guys always take me aside,” Lofton told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week. "If I have any questions, they'll answer them, and if I mess up, they are definitely there ready to correct me. They'll tell me to do it like this or give me tips here and there.

"You definitely have to have a short term memory. If you mess up, you just have to keep playing and keep moving on and take it play by play.”

•Peterson over 100: Adrian Peterson tried to carry the Vikings to their first win of the season. The second-year running back out of Oklahoma had 160 yards on 29 carries in Minnesota's 18-15 loss to Indianapolis.

•Okie tidbits: OU's Dusty Dvoracek and Tommie Harris are manning the middle for Chicago's defense. The pair combined for four tackles in the Bears' 20-17 loss to Carolina. ... Former Tulsa Washington star Robert Meachem finally made his debut for the Saints. After missing all of last year with an injury, the wide receiver's first career catch was for a touchdown in the Saints' 29-24 loss to Washington. ... Foyil's Josh Brown had two 54-yard field goals and a PAT in St. Louis' 41-13 loss to the New York Giants. ... Former Sooner Malcolm Kelly caught his first pass in the NFL, a 6-yarder from Washington QB Jason Campbell.
