Practice begins
The Thunder beginspractice today at its facility in north Oklahoma City. Coach P.J. Carlesimo said it's an adjustment when playersmove to a new city after being traded, or in this case, relocated. His biggest concern was whether the practice facility would be renovated in time for the first practice.

"When Sam (Presti) and I flew in here on July 9 following summer league, it took us a while to look at different facilities and then secure a facility,” Carlesimo said. "To go from where we were then to where we are right now is just incredible. That was the biggest thing.”

Getting started: Carlesimo said NBA pre-season camp is different than Major League Baseball or the NFL where teams spend several weeks together before they play a pre-season game. The Thunder's first pre-season game is next Wednesday (Oct. 8) in Montana.

"We have five pre-season games in seven days right out of the chute,” Carlesimo said. "The challenge is throwing as much at them as quickly as you can and still not skip any steps. You want to get things in for games so you can evaluate people.”

College days
Desmond Mason will be wearing No. 34 this season after wearing 24 throughout his NBA career.

"This was my college number,” Mason said. "When I was a rookie in Seattle, I wanted 34, but somebody had it. I'm excited.Anybody who saw me at OSU will remember 34.”

Injury update
Chris Wilcox said a recent case of food poisoning caused him to lose weight. He said he's completely healthy now and hopes to regain the weight in training camp... Robert Swift, limited in voluntary workouts because of a fractured right hand, expects to be healed in the next week or two. Swift said he still has problems shooting with his right hand and expects to miss a portion of the preseason schedule.
