Thunder mascot on holdOklahoma City's NBA team has a nickname, logo and team uniforms. But what about the mascot? Thunder fans will have to wait.
"There will not be a mascot at the start of the season,” said team spokesman Dan Mahoney. "It might not be ready until the second half of the season, maybe even after the All-Star break (in February). We're going to take some time to develop it. We want to make sure it's the right mascot and the design is right.”
First practice is a long oneCoach P.J. Carlesimo put the team through a lengthy 3-hour, 10-minute practice the first day of camp. "We had great enthusiasm and good attention,” Carlesimo said. "The biggest challenge is it's tedious from a players' standpoint because you're introducing so much. There's a lot of standing around. But you've got to walk before you can run.”
Cramming for the seasonThe Thunder will play five pre-season games in a seven-day span starting next Wednesday, which is why Carlesimo and his staff are hoping to introduce a lot of the team's offense and defense this week. "Normally you play a game or two and regroup,” Carlesimo said.
