Old Germany
Germans know how to do cabbage. And you can find some, Germans and cabbage that is, at Old Germany. Opened in 1976 by the Turek family, the restaurant has been serving some of Oklahoma’s best German cuisine including sauerkraut and the signature red cabbage since. The red cabbage is cooked each day by Jutta Wollf, one of the Turek clan, from the original German recipe that includes red cabbage, water, vinegar and a list of other ingredients that could only be revealed at the threat of death. Let’s just say we let her keep that secret. They also make their own sauerkraut. You can find both along with a full menu of fine German classics like schnitzel, sausages and steaks at their restaurant in Choctaw. There you can also find a wide selection of German beers on tap and a wine list that will make you giddy.

Korea House
Quite possibly one of the most interesting smells on the planet comes from this dish that we’ve craved like a junkie to smack. Most Koreans are proud to serve their potent pickles but most guard the recipe with the tenacity of rabid pit bulls. Fortunately there are enough purveyors of kimchi we need not worry too much. One such establishment is Korea House. For the uninitiated who have no idea what we’re talking about yet, kimchi is fermented cabbage that is doused in a healthy amount of red pepper and other spices. It is crunchy. It’s cold. It’s spicy. It’s tangy. And served with a bowl of hot soft white rice on the side of some tender bulgogi … well you really just can’t do better than that.

Jamil’s Steakhouse
Moving onto Lebanon and one of OKC’s most beloved steak traditions you’ll find cabbage dressed in its Sunday best. Every entrée at Jamil’s steak house is served with Lebanese hors d’ouevres including hummus tahini, a relish tray, tabouli, smoked bologna and you guessed it: cabbage rolls. The recipe comes the mother of owner, Greg Gawey. It is simply cabbage wrapped around a mixture of ground beef, rice and spices the most distinctive of which is cinnamon and the rest of which are probably secret a trend in cabbage recipes we found. This is then cooked in tomato and lemon juice. If you’ve really got a hankerin' you can order Rose’s cabbage rolls as your entrée.
