ARREST MADE IN JULY DEATH
Police arrested Anthony Hopkins, 30, on Friday in the July 31 shooting death of Anthony Parks, 20. Hopkins was booked on murder and armed robbery complaints in the death, said Del City police Capt. Jody Suit. Hopkins was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on Saturday.

17-YEAR-OLD HELD IN SLAYING
Police arrested a 17-year-old in connection with the stabbing death of an 18-year-old in northwest Oklahoma City, a police spokesman and jail spokeswoman confirmed Sunday. Geovanni Rodrigo Palacios, 17, was booked into the Oklahoma County jail Sunday on a murder complaint, a jail spokeswoman said. Bail has not been set. About 4:30 p.m. Saturday, police found Manuel Serrato dead at 16113 Cantera Creek Dr.

Man survives being shot
A man shot in the back Sunday evening while playing basketball near NE 63 and the Broadway Extension is expected to recover from his wound, Oklahoma City police Sgt. Daniel Stewart said. The man was not named by police. He went to a local hospital and was treated for his wound about 7:30 p.m., Stewart said. Police do not have a suspect.

FIRE CAUSES $103K IN DAMAGE
A discarded cigarette butt caused a fire that damaged the Pinehurst Apartments at NW 122 and N MacArthur Boulevard in Oklahoma City about 11:05 a.m. Sunday. Residents of 16 units were displaced, fire Battalion Chief Steve Lumry said. A woman was treated for minor smoke inhalation, but no one else was hurt. The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the building and $3,000 in damage to contents of some of its units.

Police seek volunteers
The Tulsa Police Department is seeking volunteers to be trained as police reserve officers. Reserve officers work during emergencies and provide security for community functions and events. Those selected will attend a five-month reserve academy. Applicants must be 21 years old, have a bachelor’s degree and have no felony convictions. For more information, call (800) 688-6848.
