Thunder's Pinto goes it alone on the air

I’m not a big fan of a sportscaster calling an NBA game by himself. It’s nice to hear an analyst providing additional insight into the game.

If anybody can work solo, though, it’s Thunder radio voice Matt Pinto. His high-energy delivery through the preseason has been delightful as the injury-plagued Thunder struggled to a 1-4 start.

Entering his 19th NBA season, Pinto said he’s comfortable going solo after handling that role for two seasons with the Clippers and last season with the Sonics.

"The flow of the game pretty much carries itself,” Pinto said.

He enjoys getting carried away on 3-point baskets — "Cha-ching, that’s a Thunder money ball!” — which he says is as close to a signature call as he has.

"I pretty much want to stay in the moment and not be overly contrived,” he said.

Pinto gets some breaks on the broadcasts from host Craig Humphreys, who provides scoring updates and hosts the pregame, halftime and postgame shows.

Born and raised in Boston, Pinto became interested in sports as a kid.
