Don’t count Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. John McCain out because of polls that show him trailing his Democratic opponent, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Thursday.

"The polls are so over the board,” said Huckabee, who finished a distant second to McCain both for the Republican nomination and in Oklahoma’s presidential primary.

A poll released this week by The Associated Press shows the contest nearly even while others show Democratic presidential nominee U.S. Sen. Barack Obama with a lead.

"I just don’t know that polls are very reliable in light of the methodology,” he said. "I would think anybody realistically and honestly would have to say that Obama is in a leading position, but how much I don’t know, and I don’t think the election is completely over yet.”

Huckabee was in Oklahoma City to speak on leadership and character Thursday night at Oklahoma Christian University.
