Westbrook finishes preseason strong

Rookie guard Russell Westbrook had his best two performances in the Thunder's final two preseason games. The No. 4 overall pick out of UCLA scored 22 points with six rebounds and four assists against Phoenix on Thursday and had 23 points with six rebounds in the exhibition finale one night later against the Los Angeles Lakers.

“He's aggressive and he plays with a lot of confidence. That's a great trait,” said coach P.J. Carlesimo. “He's also a very good defender. Russell's given us a lot of pluses. But with Russell you get what you normally get with a rookie, a lot of ups and downs. That's OK. At least we're getting good ups from him.”

Westbrook finished the preseason with averages of 14.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 37.8 percent from the field. He averaged 4.2 turnovers in 26.8 minutes.

“I'm still learning,” Westbrook said. “I'm going to go out every day and continue to learn from watching the game and just continue to learn throughout the year.”

Collison's knee doing fine

Nick Collison said his right knee was in a little pain after hyperextending it in the first half Friday night but said he expects to play in Wednesday's season opener.

“I've done it before,” Collison said. “I've got a little history with that knee. It's not too serious. I don't anticipate it being a problem more than a day or two.
