OSU throttles Iowa State despite sluggish and sloppy play
STILLWATER — No coach truly expects a sharp effort from his team every week of the college football season.
The key is getting the sharp play when you have to have it and the sloppy performances when your team can afford them.
On Saturday, Oklahoma State could afford a less-than-spectacular performance. A week after their first loss of the season, 28-24 at No. 1 Texas, the No. 9 Cowboys came out flat, but still managed a 59-17 rout of Iowa State at Boone Pickens Stadium.
Big plays and big numbers masked the Cowboys shortcomings against the Cyclones — turnovers, poor tackling, missed opportunities, big plays allowed.
Head coach Mike Gundy, who reached a personal single-season best eight victories, described his team's performance as "sluggish" and "sloppy."
