A victory over Nebraska gave Oklahoma linebacker Travis Lewis a little solace in what's been a heartbreaking week.

Lewis' infant daughter, who had been battling a premature birth, died Monday.

“He's a lot stronger than I am,” defensive coordinator Brent Venables said.

Lewis was absent from practice earlier in the week, but decided that being with the team would help him cope with the loss.

Saturday, he led the Sooners with nine tackles.

“He told me he needed to be here with us. This was his sanctuary,” Venables said. “He played hard and was focused.

“I'm very proud of him."
