Norman HealthPlex adds hyperbaric therapy to healing atmosphere

NORMAN — The Norman Regional HealthPlex received a hyperbaric oxygen chamber this fall, and it arrived none too soon for Lloyd Peterson.

The Dibble resident severely injured a foot in a motorcycle accident and almost lost it.

But with the chamber, which arrived Sept. 23, Peterson can breathe pure oxygen, which promotes faster production of healthy tissue.

He never was worried about lying in the clear chamber for nearly two hours every weekday morning.

"They said it would heal faster, so I was all for it,” Peterson said. "It’s doing great because I was really close to losing my foot. Every time I go there, they say it is getting better.”

Julie Ramick, a nurse and technician, said patients breathe 100 percent oxygen while inside the chamber. People normally inhale air that’s about 21 percent oxygen, she said.
