Mark Schwartz, a public servant, succumbs to cancer
Just a few weeks before Mark Schwartz died following a two-year battle with prostate cancer, he seemed to be at peace with the possibility of his life coming to an end.
“This cancer is no joke,” he said in October. “I just try and live each day and get the most out of each day. I’ve kind of accepted my fate by now.”
From his home office in Oklahoma City, the former city councilman talked about his achievements in politics and said he was proud of the work he’d done, both in Oklahoma and in Washington D.C., where served as counsel for the Department of Energy during the Clinton administration.
“I’ve been lucky,” he said. “I’ve been able to fulfill my passions and I’m proudest of my life as a public servant.”
Schwartz died Nov. 13 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City. He was 58.
