OU football notebook: Bradford, Murray Academic All-Americans

Bradford, Murray Academic All-Americans

Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford and running back DeMarco Murray were named ESPN the Magazine second-team Academic All-Americans on Wednesday.

Bradford carries a 3.95 grade-point average in finance. Murray carries a 3.31 grade-point in communications.

Both players were named to the first-team All-Big 12 Academic team earlier this week.

Johnson also Academic All-Big 12

Kyle Johnson, a deep snapper out of Konawa, was inadvertently left off OU’s Tuesday press release of the school’s All-Big 12 Academic Team members.

Johnson, a petroleum engineering major, was a second-team selection.

Gresham tight end of the week

Jermaine Gresham was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week for the second time this season.

Gresham caught five passes for 95 yards and a touchdown in OU’s 65-21 win over Texas Tech.

Earlier in the week, Gresham was named one of three finalists for the 2008 John Mackey Award, which is given to college football’s tight end of the year.

The other finalists are Oklahoma State’s Brandon Pettigrew and Missouri’s Chase Coffman.

Trash-talking Raiders

Last Saturday, Texas Tech’s players came onto the field for pregame warm-ups taunting the OU crowd and talking trash to the Sooner players.

That tactic didn’t work as OU cruised to a 65-21 victory.

"I’ve never seen a team come on the field like that,” said Sooner defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. "I thought, ‘No, that’s a mistake.’

"It fired us up. Instead of trying to fight them then, we were going to beat ‘em up between the whistles. Between the lines it was us and them, and now, let’s see where your noise-talking is.
