The sun and the smiles on the faces of grandparents and their grandchildren were shining bright at the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren 6th Annual Christmas Party on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church.
Willa Johnson of Oklahoma City, a grandmother raising three grandchildren, enjoyed a Christmas greeting as her family entered the church at 1001 NW 25. "This is my second year coming to the event,” said Johnson, who is not the Oklahoma County commissioner. She has been raising her grandchildren for nine years. "I believe that communication is the key to encourage other grandparents to step up and help raise their grandchildren because not all parents are on drugs; some just need some help.” The program was put on by Sunbeam Family Services and TRIAD/S.A.L.T Seniors and Law Enforcement Working Together, among other sponsors.
