New starter, but no Teeng Akol on floor yet

Oklahoma State’s five-position situation has been the topic of a lot of discussion since starter Ibrahima Thomas quit the team two weeks ago. On Sunday, OSU coach Travis Ford started Malcoln Kirkland for the first time, and he and Anthony Brown played about equal minutes in the game. Kirkland had 10 points and three rebounds, and Brown had two points and three rebounds.

Ford said he started Kirkland for a couple reasons — the sophomore practiced well all week and he was punishing Brown.

"I wasn’t overly happy with Anthony after the Washington game,” Ford said. "He played 19 minutes and didn’t get a rebound. That’s almost impossible to do ... in a game where all we concentrated on was rebounding. Malcoln had been playing better, but this was almost more of a punishment to Anthony. We can’t do that. But he responded well.”

Ford didn’t get 6-foot-11 Teeng Akol into the game.

"We were gonna play him tonight, but it never quite got to the point where we could put him in,” Ford said. "He just needs a little more practice. He’s come a long way. ”
