NORMAN — Despite a summer spent impressing college scouts and winning kicking camp awards, Bryce Easley had to wait a while until the right offer came along. But when it did, he knew the waiting was more than worth it.

After a record-setting career as Norman North’s standout kicker, Easley will play his college ball at Oklahoma. And though it was fairly late in the process when the Sooners made an offer to Easley, it didn’t take long for him to answer.

“It was an easy decision,” Easley said. “I’ve grown up an OU fan. Being right here in town is great because I can stay close to my friends and family. And OU has a great program. I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Several schools offered Easley a full scholarship, but he didn’t feel any was the right fit. OU asked Easley to come in as a preferred walk-on for one year and then he would be given a scholarship from the 2010 class.

It was a win-win situation. The Sooners are getting a kicker who led the state in field goals this season with 14, including a 54-yard boomer against Putnam City North. Easley, who helped Norman North to consecutive 9-3 records, also hit 48 extra points and was the team’s punter, averaging 35.3 yards on 18 punts.
