ADA — When Colton Richardson sees USC safety Taylor Mays he sees what he hopes will be a glimpse at his future.

“I like how he makes plays and is a team leader,” said Richardson, a standout linebacker for Ada. “I watched one of his games and he was doing stuff I usually do.” An All-American safety for USC, Mays has the size of a linebacker and the speed of a safety.

At 6-4, 225-pounds, Richardson is a high school version of Mays. The senior had 89 tackles, six sacks and two interceptions this season, earning himself a spot on the Oklahoman's All-State team.

His unique blend of size, speed and athleticism, caught the eye of Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State coaching staff.

“They like how I play the football and how big I am,” said Richardson, who is verbally committed to OSU. “Most big guys don't move like I move.”

And the future Cowboy proved it week after week this season.

Not only was he a standout on defense but he had 49 receptions for 628 yards and nine touchdowns as a receiver.

Richardson will play a linebacker/safety spot called the “Starback” for OSU. It's a hybrid position which is ideal for the player with Richardson's versatility.

“I'm happy with what I've done at Ada,” Richardson said. “And I'm excited to go up to OSU.”
