A 22-year-old University of Oklahoma student died Wednesday night after a Colorado snowboarding accident caused massive head trauma.

William "Billy” Khourie III, an Elk City native, was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred Tuesday afternoon at Breckenridge, said Julie Lonborg, spokeswoman for Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colo.

Breckenridge Ski Resort officials said the ski patrol was called to an advanced-intermediate trail and took him to Breckenridge Medical Center before he was transferred to SwedishMedical Center.

Khourie’s personal OU homepage features a prominent snowboarding jump photo with links to Burton brand snowboards.

"I was born and raised in Elk City, Oklahoma,” he writes on his site.

"I have wonderful friends and family who I love and miss very much back home. I love going to OU though. It has been my dream since I can remember. I love snowboarding, the lake, fishing, and mostly all sports.

"Overall I’m a pretty easy going guy that likes to have a good time.”
