A year ago, New York Giants receiver David Tyree was the unexpected hero of Super Bowl XLII with one touchdown catch and a spectacular catch that set up the game-winning score.
Who might be this year’s Tyree? It could be Pittsburgh wide receiver Santonio Holmes
, who returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown and caught a 65-yard touchdown pass in the first two postseason games.
"If it happened to be in the fourth quarter with 20 or 30 seconds on the clock, and the quarterback wanted to get rid of the ball, I would be that guy in the huddle tapping him in the side saying, ‘Hey I will make this play for you,’ " Holmes said.
One-time Warner fan
Pittsburgh center Justin Hartwig
, who grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa, has been watching Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner
for a long time.
"I watched Kurt play for the Iowa Barnstormers, and he tore that league up,” Hartwig said of the Arena League. "He’s already got his (Super Bowl) ring, so hopefully he’ll take it easy on us on Sunday.”
Referee Terry McAulay
will head the seven-man crew of game officials for Super Bowl XLIII. The officiating crew collectively has 55 years of NFL officiating experience and 43 combined postseason game assignments.
McAulay, who is concluding his 11th season as an NFL game official, served as the referee in Super Bowl XXXIX. He has officiated in nine playoff games — one Super Bowl, five NFL championship games, two divisional playoffs and one wild-card game.
