Cheers
→To Putnam North tailback Josh Booker, who signed Wednesday wearing a bow tie. We’re not cheering his fashion sense, we’re cheering his individualism. Always like a guy who thinks outside the box.

→To the Oklahomans who signed with service academies: Norman North’s Nathan Badger, Jenks’ Brian Johnston, Putnam North’s Chris Jackson and Grove’s Corey Swartz with Air Force, and Putnam North’s Hunter Frantz with Army. Football players of a higher cause.

Jeers
→To the theatrics of some recruits who play the hat game. Dre Kirkpatrick of Gadsden City, Ala., chose Alabama, but only after he discarded a Texas cap — "This hat here? It ain’t got no swagger.” — and then dug through a duffle bag and pulled out a garbage bag, which had a red box inside it. Finally, the box produced an Alabama cap. Enough already.

→To the listing of some recruits as "Athlete.” Hey, they’re all athletes. Recruiting analysts should pick a position and get on with it.
