The 1997 Casady graduate and daughter of Toni and the late Morris Wizenberg now lives in Seattle and writes a food blog called Orangette, which she said draws about 8,000 unique visitors a day. She also is a contributor to Bon Appetit.

Her book, "A Homemade Life,” has great recipes and, like Orangette, is about much more: death, dying, loss, love, living, fear and loathing — but not in Las Vegas.

The common thread for Wizenberg’s ability, or inability, to cope with life’s obstacles is food. Each chapter starts with a recollection and ends with a recipe. She measures and yields her words with grace and aplomb, sharing life experiences and using recipes as common ground.
