WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will travel to Mexico this month to show support for that country’s crackdown on drug cartels that is blamed for a surge in violence and fears of a large-scale spillover into the United States, the State Department said Friday. Clinton, on her third trip abroad as the top U.S. diplomat, will visit Mexico City and Monterrey on March 25-26. Her agenda will be broad, including the global financial crisis, climate change and trade.

Obama phones other leaders
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama telephoned the leaders of Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines and Argentina on Friday to discuss working together on the world’s economic crisis, among other issues. Obama will see three of those leaders — from Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and Argentia — at the Group of 20 economic summit next month in London.

Phony data foil security
WASHINGTON — Using phony documents and the identities of a dead man and a 5-year-old boy, a government investigator obtained U.S. passports in a test of post-9/11 security. Despite efforts to boost passport security since the 2001 terror attacks, the investigator fooled passport and postal service employees four out of four times, according to a report released Friday.


Subway train hits, kills man
WASHINGTON — A man came off the platform at the downtown McPherson Square station near the White House on Friday afternoon and was killed by a subway train, authorities said. The man suffered traumatic injuries.
