Place of residence:
March 28, 2008
Skyler was staying with his father, Robert Roininen, and his father's girlfriend, Ashley Lorene Parnell, at the Jenks home of Nina Fries, Parnell's grandmother. Parnell found Skyler not breathing the morning of March 27, 2008, and called police. Skyler was taken to a Tulsa hospital where he died the next day. A medical examiner said the child died of a fractured skull due to blunt head trauma. Parnell, 26, was charged with first-degree murder. A Tulsa County jury found her guilty in February and recommended a punishment of life in prison.
About 5 a.m. on March 27, Skyler's father said he heard the child crying. He told police Parnell left his bedroom to go check on Skyler. The boy stopped crying. A few minutes later, Parnell brought Skyler into the bedroom and told him to call 911 because Skyler was not breathing. Prosecutors contended Parnell snapped when she took Skyler into the living room for a diaper change and smashed his head on the floor.
