Zane was eaten alive by a hungry puppy, a black Labrador mix. He was left unsupervised in an infant swing in the living room. Police said his mother, Linzy Earles, then 17, was asleep in a bedroom.
The mother was charged with second-degree manslaughter but her case was handled in juvenile court because of her age at the time of Zane's death. She is now 18. A juvenile judge in February found her “delinquent.” She was put on probation. She was required to enroll in a general equivalency diploma program, get counseling and take random drug tests.
