Dying Too Young: Zane Earles

Oklahoman Modified: March 28, 2009 at 7:41 pm •  Published: March 26, 2009
Name: Zane Earles

Age: 2 months

Place of residence: Tulsa

Died: July 28, 2008

What happened: Zane was eaten alive by a hungry puppy, a black Labrador mix. He was left unsupervised in an infant swing in the living room. Police said his mother, Linzy Earles, then 17, was asleep in a bedroom.

Other: The mother was charged with second-degree manslaughter but her case was handled in juvenile court because of her age at the time of Zane's death. She is now 18. A juvenile judge in February found her “delinquent.” She was put on probation. She was required to enroll in a general equivalency diploma program, get counseling and take random drug tests. has disabled the comments for this article.
