TRENTON, N.J. — Briann January scored 22 points and Arizona State scorched Texas A&M’s pressing defense like no one else this season in posting an 84-69 victory over the Aggies to reach the finals of the Trenton Regional.

Arizona State (26-8) will face top-seeded Connecticut (36-0) on Tuesday night for a trip to the women’s Final Four in St. Louis.

Danielle Orsillo added 15 points and Lauren Lacey had 14 for the Sun Devils, who shot a season-high 62 percent from the field against a team that had given up only 87 points in its two tournament games.

"They were the better basketball team today,” said Texas A&M coach Gary Blair. "If they can play at that level, they can give Connecticut a good run, and Connecticut is one of the greatest teams I have ever seen.”

Tanisha Smith had 19 points and Takia Starks added 18 for the second-seeded Aggies (27-8). Former Putnam City West standout Danielle Gant added 13 points for A&M, which shot 48 percent from the field.

Connecticut freshman Tiffany Hayes scored a career-high 28 points as the undefeated Huskies beat fourth-seeded California to advance to the Trenton Regional finals, their 14th regional finals in the last 16 seasons.

UConn (36-0), which faces Arizona State in Tuesday’s finals, continued its march toward the school’s third perfect season.
