Reward of $35K offered in Oklahoma County fire

A reward of $35,000 is being offered for information about the fire that destroyed 70 homes in eastern Oklahoma County two weeks ago.

GuideOne Insurance and the Midwest City Police Department announced the reward Monday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for the fire.

Police investigators said the fire was intentionally set near a wrecker business during high winds on April 9. A number of fires were reported across the state that day.

As many as 150 homes were destroyed statewide, the state Emergency Management Department said. One firefighter in Lincoln County was seriously burned.

Iowa-based GuideOne Insurance represents a number of people who lost property in the fire that burned areas in and around Midwest City and Choctaw, Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said. He said he hopes the reward will generate new leads.

"We are excited that GuideOne Insurance has stepped up to offer a reward and we are hoping other insurance companies will follow," he said.

No arrests have been made. Clabes declined to comment on whether any suspects have been identified, or if investigators have determined a motive.
