NORMAN — Juan Pattillo, expected to contend for a starting spot next season, was dismissed from OU’s basketball squad Sunday. Sooners coach Jeff Capel announced Pattillo’s dismissal for violation of team rules in a statement and said he’d have no comment. Pattillo was suspended one game during the regular season for similar cause, believed to be academic related. Pattillo, a 6-foot-6 forward, played in 18 games for the Sooners during an interesting season for the junior college transfer. He opted to redshirt and didn’t play the first semester, then decided he was ready to play just before tipoff of OU’s game against Texas on Jan. 13. He averaged 6.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocked shots in 15 minutes a game. At times, Pattillo was spectacular. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Baylor. He scored a season-high 15 points in a home loss to Kansas, when Blake Griffin did not play due to a concussion. Other times, Pattillo disappeared. Now more emphasis will be put on the development of incoming freshmen Keith "Tiny” Gallon and Andrew Fitzgerald, to go with returning players Orlando Allen and Ryan Wright.
