Thousands of state-owned laptop computers might not have enough security protection, even though safety and data protection rules have been in place since 2003.

"Our policies are set, and it’s up to each individual agency to comply with them,” said Joe Fleckinger, deputy director of information technology with the Oklahoma Office of State Finance.

Fleckinger’s office wrote the policy regarding laptop security. Problem is, he isn’t sure which agencies are following it.

In April, laptops were stolen from Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency and state Department of Human Services employees.
