"He reminds me a little of Brandon Roy. When you watched him in college, he didn't look like an elite athlete because he was using his knowledge of the game, not his athleticsm. Then he gets to the combine and does really well in all the athletic testing. Everyone was wowed. Harden's like that. He's got sneaky athleticism." — NBA executive.

"James Harden will be a good NBA player. He's a good shooter who can make open shots. He has the length and perimeter abilities to be an adequate defender. He's really smart. He will be a good NBA player but in a different year he might not even be a top 10 pick." — NBA scout.

"He grew up around crime and gangs but James doesn't have a tattoo or piercing on his body. He always said 'no' when he faced peer pressure of people who were doing the wrong things. He's a good kid. He's never been in trouble because he spends all his time in the gym." — Arizona State assistant coach Scott Pera.

"I think my weakness at the end of the season was my mid-range game, being able to stop on a dime and pull up over someone. But over the last two months working out, I've improved a lot so I wouldn't say it's a weakness but something I need to improve on more. As far as ball handling and everything, I just need a little touch-up on my game and I'll be good." — James Harden following a workout with the Kings.

"He's young for his class. He's actually a year ahead in school. The way he plays it's important that he just gets better all around. He's a good listener. We asked him to do a lot of different things and put the ball in his hands a lot of different ways." — Arizona State coach Herb Sendek.
