OU won a hotly contested recruiting battle Thursday night by landing a verbal commitment from defensive tackle Torrea Peterson, Rivals.com reported.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Peterson, who hails from San Antonio East Central High School, held offers from USC, Texas, Auburn, LSU and Nebraska, among a host of other schools.

Peterson is OU's 12 verbal commitment for the class of 2010, and second defensive tackle, joining Flower Mound (Texas) product Daniel Noble.
