Turnaround performed

BOSTON — Saturday morning in Boston, with its rich Revolutionary War history, the Navy’s oldest commissioned warship performed its annual turnaround in the harbor. The USS Constitution — "Old Ironsides” — marked the day by firing a 21-gun salute, followed by 19 volleys. Later in the evening, Bostonians filled the banks of the Charles River for a free Boston Pops concert.

Turtle Obama heads to sea
KEY WEST, Fla. — A sea turtle named after President Barack Obama that was rescued just before Inauguration Day has been set free on Independence Day as about 100 people watched. Obama the loggerhead sea turtle was found ailing off a Key West beach on Jan. 19, the eve of the inauguration.

2 die in blast of fireworks
OCRACOKE, N.C. — Two workers died Saturday from injuries suffered after a fireworks truck exploded on a North Carolina island. Hyde County spokeswoman Jamie Tunnell said three other workers were injured when the truck exploded Saturday morning as the workers prepared for the Independence Day fireworks display on the Ocracoke Island docks.

Lightning strike kills 1
LAKELAND, Fla. — One person was killed in a lightning strike at a Fourth of July gathering in central Florida and 18 others were taken to hospitals, Polk County spokeswoman Cindy Rodriguez said. At least 80 people had gathered outside a Lakeland church Saturday when lightning hit a wooden barn nearby.
