There were 15 million people nationwide unemployed in June, the U.S. Labor Department said, and way more people looking for jobs than positions available.
For the more than 111,000 unemployed Oklahomans, never has the adage "it’s not what you know, but who you know” seemed more true. Yet networking in the business world is often an underdeveloped skill though the majority of job seekers end up finding a job through word of mouth. One local recruiter and human resources pro is offering a comfortable way to network and meet the very people who can help them find work. A Pink Slip Mixer is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Rococo’s Restaurant 2824 N Pennsylvania Ave. The event brings job seekers, hiring managers, recruiters and human resource professionals together from across the metro area in a high-profile yet casual networking atmosphere, said organizer Jessica Miller-Merrell, owner of Xceptional HR Consulting, a recruiting, human resources, and social media consulting company. "Being unemployed is a lot harder today than a year ago, because there are so many people fighting over the same jobs,” Miller-Merrell said.
